Peponi House is one of Kenya's leading prep schools, with just over 400 pupils. Despite the Covid pandemic it has been pressing ahead with the almost complete rebuilding of the school campus. The first phase is nearing completion (see above) and the second phase will see even more amazing buildings, facilities and resources.
All this is just part of the school's strategy to be the leading prep school in sub-Saharan Africa, an ambitious an exciting goal that everyone is fully committed to. This is about far more than just buildings and resources - the educational offer is outstanding, the ethos is great ("a school of many nations, a family of one"), the children are bubblier than a case of champagne, and the staff are nearly as bubbly, but of course very sober in their determination to be the best they can be.
Peponi House very successfully used my services to find and appoint a new Head. Thank you to my many contacts who suggested possible candidates, either in response to this blog or my social media posts, or in response to my direct approaches. We had a huge number of enquiries and ended up with a large field of truly excellent candidates from around the world. Candidate assessment involved various stages, both online and in person, culminating in the Peponi Board visiting London for a week and two shortlisted candidates spending time in Nairobi with their families.
I am delighted now to be able to announce that the successful candidate, Tracy Handford, will be taking up the post in September 2023. Currently Vice-Principal with Stephen Perse Foundation in Cambridge, she is the Foundation's DSL and has specific responsibility for their two prep schools, their pre-preps, and their four nurseries. Tracy is an experienced prep school Head and also an ISI Reporting Inspector.
Headships don't come much better than this, and Kenya is a great place to live and work, with the lively Nairobi city environment, amazing wildlife in the open country nearby and the beaches of Mombasa.
