The next few years are going to be hugely challenging for independent schools. Almost every school is worried and quite rightly so.
Schools and Governors are very good at worrying, but the traditional view for many is that it'll turn out all right in the end because we're a good school.
Well maybe, but probably not this time. There's a perfect storm approaching, with the UK economy struggling, high inflation, increased taxes for successful people like independent school parents, and the threats of VAT on school fees and taxes for schools that are charities. Of course some schools are immune to all this, but not many.
So it's time to do something, and the sooner you start the less drastic it will have to be.
Thinking and planning is the prelude to doing the right things, not just any things. Good thinking and good planning is even better. But good thinking and good planning need good context, good insights, and good ideas, and the stimulus to get going.
So I'm offering a FREE lunchtime webinar for Chairs and Governors, who need to be at the forefront of a school's thinking, planning and preparation.
On Wednesday, February 1st, from 12.30 - 1.30 pm, I'm joining with Tracey Young, Head of Education at haysmacintyre, and Andrea Tishler, Head of Schools at GBH Law. Together we have huge experience, over many years, with schools of all shapes and sizes, and we know how schools can go wrong as well as how they can go right.
The next three, five and ten years will see change like we've never seen it before, so do join us for a lively and stimulating discussion. This is a genuine attempt to help schools prepare for what's coming, to help them come through the storm, and to help them do well out of the opportunities that a storm also presents.
